Do You Have a Process for Setting Goals & Achieving Them?
Goal setting is something I absolutely nerd out about! It’s like giving yourself a roadmap that takes you from where you are to where you want to be, while celebrating every single milestone along the way.
I’ve used this process for years, whether it’s building my health coaching business, improving my fitness, or creating the kind of life I love. It’s not always perfect, let’s be honest life has its twists and turns, but this approach has worked wonders for me!
Here’s how I set, track, and achieve my goals:
1. Start with Clarity—What’s Your Why?
Before I write down any goal, I ask myself: Why does this matter to me? Here’s the thing, if you don’t know your why, it’s easy to lose steam when things get tough. For me, my “why” is often tied to my faith, my family, or my mission to help others live healthier, more intentional lives.
2. Break It Down into Bite-Sized Steps
This step is a game changer, trust me! When I look at a big goal, it can feel heavy, like staring up at a mountain. But I’ve learned to break those big dreams into smaller, manageable steps. It keeps me focused on what I can do today instead of stressing about how long the road might be. Little steps, done consistently, move mountains.
3. Make Goals SMART—Clear, Achievable, and Realistic
I’m sure you’ve heard of SMART goals before, but this framework works, so I stick to it!
- Specific: What exactly am I working toward?
- Measurable: How will I know when I’ve succeeded?
- Achievable: Is this realistic for my life right now?
- Relevant: Does this align with the life I want to create?
- Time-bound: When do I want to achieve this?
4. Track Your Progress— Because the Number Never Lie!
Oh, this is where I really geek out. I love tracking progress; it helps me stay focused. Seeing the numbers change or checking off tasks keeps me going. It also helps me adjust when things aren’t going as planned. If something isn’t working, I tweak the plan and keep moving forward.
5. Find Accountability—You Don’t Have to Do This Alone
I’ve learned that accountability is everything. Whether it’s a friend or a coach, having someone to check in with makes a world of difference. It’s a built-in support system that encourages me when I feel like quitting. If you’re serious about a goal, find someone to share it with.
6. Celebrate Every Victory—Big and Small
I used to skip over this part, but now I’m intentional about celebrating every single win. Whether it’s hitting a mini-goal or simply making progress, taking time to recognize how far I’ve come keeps me motivated. It also reminds me that the journey itself is worth celebrating.
Progress is progress, and my goal is always progress not perfection!
